So I almost didn’t have time to get this project posted for you because I am in full wedding decoration crafting mode this week. I was hired to plan out and make decorations for a bohemian themed wedding and I just can’t get enough of all of the pretty flowers and lace and pink I’ve been using. I could go on and on about the decoration plans but for now, let’s just talk about how quick and easy it was to Update a Thrift Store Basket into Bohemian Wedding Decor. I’ll be sure to come back and add some photos of how I used it at the wedding, but for right now, it’ll just hold some flowers. Also be sure to see all of the other incredible projects from this month’s Thrift Store Upcycle Challenge below!

Update a Thrift Store Basket into Bohemian Wedding Decor Steps

1: Dry brush the Vintage Decor Paint onto the basket with the Sash Brush, only lightly dipping the very tip into the paint. Use a little bit at a time because a little of this paint goes a long way. When painting, you want to leave bits and pieces of the natural basket color showing through and to see brush strokes. You’re going for a very worn look. Paint all of the sides, the top edges, the handle, and the upper inside wall. Let the paint dry completely.

2: Select your flowers and trim off any extra stem.

3: Cut off 12 inches of ribbon.

4: Position a flower at the base of the handle with the stem under the handle and tie the ribbon around the flower stem and the handle. Now wrap the ribbon around and around until the stem is covered then tie it off.

5: Repeat for the other handle base and if you like, all the way across.

That’s it! That was so super easy and I think that beautiful paint really helped to Update a Thrift Store Basket into Bohemian Wedding Decor. Isn’t it crazy that this basket was only 69¢!? Even if boho isn’t your thing, this technique would work well for a rustic/ country/ farmhouse style wedding, too. But hey, this doesn’t have to be for a wedding at all! This basket would look so cute alongside your favorite farmhouse decor as well. What do you think? Would you decorate with an updated basket like this one?

If you love boho style and upcycling, too, you definitely should look at last month’s project where I turned a Thrift Store Frame into Boho Art! 1. Can’t wait to see more of the wedding. But I am again super amazed as how simple it is to upcycle a very basic thing to something pretty and specia.

  2. Wow. This is so simple yet makes such a big difference in the look of the basket. It turned out beautifully. Good luck with the big wedding decor. I am sure the whole thing will be stunning!
