Christmas parties are so much more fun when you have a theme and this Ugly Christmas Sweater Party Invitation is the perfect invite for one of my favorite Christmas party themes–ugly Christmas sweaters! Do you know they have entire websites and stores dedicated to them? Of course, you can usually hit up your favorite thrift store and find some real gems. But we are getting ahead of ourselves. We need to get this party planned first, starting with the invitations. If you’re like me, you like to have custom invitations that match your theme, but those puppies can get pricey, plus you have to wait. That’s why having a Cricut is so awesome. No, they didn’t pay me to say that, I’m just in love with my cutting machine. Also, be sure to see below how I used craft supplies I had on hand to make this card as part of a Monthly De-Stash Challenge. Okay, let’s get started before I go off on a Cricut tangent.

Be sure to Save it on Pinterest if you want to make it later!

Ugly Christmas Sweater Party Invitation Steps

1. In Cricut Design Space, start a new project and click to add an image. Type “Christmas card” in the search bar and you should see the Ugly Christmas Sweater in the first row. Select it and insert the image.

2. This is way too small for what we want, so enlarge it to 22.065″ by 9.598″. This will make the card itself 5″ by 5.5″.

3. Click “Make It” and load one of your Christmas patterned scrapbook papers into your Cricut. It will cut the rectangle backer that will show through the sweater first.

Tip: Don’t use striped paper like me, it didn’t work as well as a print like I used for the envelope would have.

4. Now load your scrapbook paper for your envelope. I wanted a crazy print but by all means, choose a solid color if you like. Make sure to load the paper with the print upside down and 1/8′ down from the edge of the sticky surface of the mat to alleviate the need to use one of those 24″ mats in the photo, then cut.

5. And finally, load the green cardstock and cut it.

6. Glue the rectangle piece to the back of the sweater cut out then fold the green card in half.

7. Use scraps from some of the other Christmas paper and cut “Christmas” and “party” using your Cuttlebug and die cuts.

8. Glue those pieces to the front of the card.

9. Now for the really fun part! If you feel like it’s not ugly or obnoxious enough, add some of the embellishments to the front, highlighting the sweater design. I mean you can really go to town depending on how many invites you need to make. You could also easily make these into your Christmas cards instead of invitations.

10. Fold the envelope and glue the two side flaps under the bottom flap.

That’s it! How often do you get to purposefully make your crafts ugly? This Ugly Christmas Sweater Party Invitation was such a blast to make, though. I might have to talk the mister into having one of these hilarious parties this year! You could also get the kiddos in on the action making these invites since they are so “talented” at crafts. Now as for the de-stash challenge, I already had everything on hand except for a few of the stickers. I swear I could make a million cards with all of the scrapbook book paper I’ve hoarded collected. Who’s with me?

  1. I just saw an light up ugly sweater at the store and thought of this fun card. I love the bright colors and all the patterns on this card. I have a Silhouette machine and I’m sure I can make something similar.
