Welcome to the 2017 Ornament Exchange & Blog Hop! This year, there are 47 amazing bloggers participating in the exchange. The rules of the challenge were simple: be partnered with a fellow blogger, create a handmade ornament for $15 or under, create a tutorial, and ship the ornament off to a new home! I was partnered with Erica From Erica Ever After and chose to make her a Swarovski Crystal Handmade Snowflake Ornament to go along with her winter wonderland themed tree. I have to admit, I absolutely love this theme! I’ve even hosted a winter wonderland party last year. The white and subtle blue are so, so pretty together.

Bonus: I have a second ornament partner!  I made her a Glittery Christmas Ornament with Swarovski Crystals you might want to check out as well.

Swarovski Crystal Handmade Snowflake Ornament Steps

1. Apply three or four coats of the white pearl paint to the wooden snowflake until you can’t see the wood showing through. Let the paint dry completely.

2. Now lightly brush the blue pearl paint along the edges of both sides of the snowflake. This will be very subtle and you don’t want to see an obvious line between the two paint colors. Let the paint dry completely.

3. Next, you’ll glue on the Swarovski Crystals.  I applied a dot of glue on the ornaments where I wanted the crystal, then used tweezers to gently stick each crystal down. I used two different sizes to have some variation and placed them where they looked best on the ornament to accentuate the snowflake shape. Let them all dry completely and then repeat on the other side and let that side dry, too.

Tip: I chose Elmer’s Craft Bond Ultra Stix All because I want to make sure those crystals were stuck on there for good. Clear Tacky Glue would also work well and dry fast. You don’t buy nice crystals just to have them fall off down the road. I also chose these as opposed to the “bling” strips sold near the paper crafting section. Those aren’t made for crafts like this and that sticky back would definitely not hold up over time. These are actually made to use on t-shirts, but I think they work very well for nicer ornaments, too.

4. Take a jump ring and attach it to the ornament on one of the available openings. Attach the second jump ring to that one.

5. Cut a 9-inch length of silver ribbon and slide it through the jump ring.

6. Slide one of the Pandora type baubles over both lengths of ribbon, down to the jump ring.

7. Knot the two ends of the ribbon together, looping in one of the charm baubles.

That’s it! This Swarovski Crystal Handmade Snowflake Ornament was such a joy to make. I really enjoyed putting on all of those crystals and boy do they sparkle and shine like nothing else. They’re so much closer to the real sparkle from snowflakes than the plastic rhinestones. I hope that Erica loves her ornament as much as I do and now I can’t wait to see what she made for me!
