Welcome to the second week of the Craft Room Challenge! This week we were supposed to purge all of our unwanted and unneeded items from our craft room but it took me far longer than a week to get it all accomplished. So on top of being a week behind from having the plague that’s been going around, I got even more behind when this Neverending Purge took me two and a half weeks to complete. But I did it. That’s what’s important here, right?
Holy purge, Batman! That “dirty little secret” of a closet I didn’t want to show anyone turned out to be one of the biggest hurdles of this entire Craft Room Challenge. I don’t know how I managed to cram so many boxes and totes of office supplies, desk items, and files into one closet, but I did. This turned into a Neverending Purge because I had to sort through mail and paperwork and memorabilia and office supplies and records that have been boxed up over the past 15 years (or more).
I found some great items I’d been looking for, like my official marriage license and a car title, but I found so many other useless items like warranties and manuals from appliances I owned in the 90s. I found floppy disks, 5 trillion staples, more Sharpies and Post-Its than any one human can ever use. Of course, some items bordered on ridiculous such as my receipt for my first computer purchase in 2000 which included my dial-up info with Compuserve. Yeah, good thing I kept that. I also have every single pay stub I have ever received since starting work in the late 1900s. I should say HAD. They’re all shredded now.
As for purging craft supplies, I didn’t have that much to get rid of. I managed to sort through and get rid of tons of items (like paper and stickers from the 90s) when I first put this room together a couple of years ago. I did get rid of some washi tape dispensers I got at Michael’s because they couldn’t hold all of my washi tape and honestly, they didn’t function very well. Once my whole room is organized and put together, I may go through again and look more closely to see if I can get rid of more.
I think another big part of this purge is getting items out of this room that don’t need to be here anymore. For instance, I got a new printer but my old one is just sitting on the floor under a table as well as my old wifi router. Why I didn’t just take them out immediately, I have no idea.
On a positive note, LOOK AT MY ROOM NOW! It’s hard to believe how big it is and every time I think about it, I cringe a little because I was struggling to get around in it before for absolutely no reason. Well, there’s the obvious reason, but I had no reason to not clean it up other than I’m busy and also I don’t like to clean and also it was super hard. But look now! I think from now on, if it even remotely starts to look messy, I’m going to watch this week’s video and get motivated, kind of like watching an episode of Hoarders to get motivated to clean your house, lol.
Look at all of the space for crafts and activities!
