Did you find the clue for this month’s block yet? It was the three little black hearts towards the end of the post. It was definitely very subtle this time around! How many of the easter eggs have you found so far?
For this block, I felt like I absolutely had to incorporate hearts into the design. How could I not? And while there are loads of crochet patterns out there for bobble or filet heart motifs, there really wasn’t anything made specifically for the larger scale needed with super bulky yarn. So I pulled out my graph paper and puzzled one out that would work with the yarn weight and still fit within the 6-inch height limit.

The album cover for this era provides plenty of color inspiration, for sure! Finding existing yarn in the exact same colorways, however, proved to be extra challenging. I really wanted to get a darker pink for the solid version, but I couldn’t find any that were like a flamingo pink or a bubblegum pink. For the variegated version, I found Smooth Sailing last year, but it’s unfortunately no longer available anywhere except 2-pack on Amazon or on Mary Maxim. I’ve instead linked below to an alternative color scheme if you want to stick with Michael’s.
So go grab your hook & yarn and let’s get started! Don’t forget to share your finished blocks in our Eras Crochet Along Facebook group! I absolutely enjoy seeing all of your different versions and yarn choices!

It will measure approximately the same using two strands of #4 medium-weight yarn.
Gauge

10 rows = 4″

Instructions
Chain 109.
Row 1: Single crochet in the 2nd chain from the hook. Single crochet in each chain across. (108 single crochets) Chain 1, turn.
Row 2: Single crochet in each stitch across. (108 single crochets) Chain 1, turn.

Row 3: (Back Side) Single crochet into the 1st 11 stitches. Triple crochet in the next stitch. *Single crochet in the next 16 stitches. Triple crochet in the next stitch.** Repeat * to ** 4 more times. Single crochet in the last 11 stitches. (102 single crochets, 6 triple crochets) Chain 1, turn.
Note: I use the triple crochet stitch here in leu of a bobble or popcorn stitch because those stitches turn out gigantic with the super bulky yarn. If you’re not a fan of using a triple crochet, try a bobble stitch but only use 3 partial double crochets instead of the usual 5. If you’re using double strand worsted weight yarn, you see similar results. Try it out if you’re curious. The popcorn stitch looks like an udder! And a whole bunch of them together would look like an alpine forest! Not very lover-y at all.
Row 4: (Front Side) Single crochet into each stitch across. (108 single crochets) Chain 1, turn.

So will you put this block off for 20 seconds or 20 years? Do you love it or is it the worst thing you’ve ever heard seen? This heart motif is super fun and girly and I love how to completely stands out from the rest of the blocks, especially being sandwiched between black and gray eras. It’s like a ray of happy sunshine!
Don’t forget to look for clues for the next Eras Crochet Along block within this post! It will be a little more hidden than the previous eras, so keep your eyes peeled while reading!
