Hi, Happy Crafters! I’m Pam with P.S. I Love You Crafts. My crafty friends, Marie and Aleisha invited me to guest post today on their site, and I’m thrilled to share my love of card making with you on this Handmade Baby Shower Card!
I’ve been making cards for 10 years, and I’m completely addicted. I find that card making is easier than scrapbooking, but I enjoy both hobbies.
Today I want to share this sweet elephant Handmade Baby Shower Card.
I often make special request cards for people. They love that I’m able to customize something to match a theme or favorite hobby.
Most recently, I got a request for a light teal and gray card with an elephant for a Baby Shower. My husband bought me this Bella With Presents stamp for Christmas because it was on my Amazon Wish List and it’s perfect. I also used it to make a Sweet Elephant Birthday Card.
This stamp is from Wild Rose Studio and if you haven’t seen their stamps, you should check them out. All of their images are so sweet, like this Bluebell Deer and Hedgehog.

Instructions for Handmade Baby Shower Card
- Using black ink, stamp your image on the white cardstock, and color with Copic Markers. If you’re not familiar with Copic Markers, go to Kit and Clowder. Copic Markers are alcohol-based and have to be used with special paper and ink. Kit and Clowder has amazing classes to teach you how to use them.
- Using a craft sponge, or ink dauber, lightly add Soft Sky ink to the edge of the white cardstock.
- Fold your larger patterned paper in half to create your card base. You will notice on my card, I used double sided paper. Since the inside was patterned, I added a solid white mat inside for a sentiment and so it could be signed.
- Now you’re ready to assemble your card. Using scrapbook adhesive, attach the layers as shown in the photo below.
- Stamp “for your shower” on medium gray cardstock. Then punch out with the oval punch. Using a scrap of patterned paper, punch a scalloped oval. Adhere the ovals with scrapbook adhesive.
- Using pop dots or dimensional tape, attach the ovals to the card.
This Handmade Baby Shower Card was for a little boy, so I didn’t add any pearls, rhinestones, glitter, flowers, or ribbon. However, if it had been for a little girl, some extra embellishments would have worked on this card.
Tips for Making Handmade Cards
- Use heavy paper for your base. Whether the base of your card is solid cardstock or patterned designer paper, make sure you use a good quality paper. If you use cheap paper, your card will not stand up.
- I knew I wouldn’t be able to add any “froo froo” to this card since it was for a baby boy, so instead, I added lots of layers. There are 8 layers on the front of this card!
- Square cards work well for larger stamped images but make sure you have envelopes for them. You should be able to find 6″x 6″ at the craft store or on Amazon.
- Large square envelopes need extra postage.
- I ask to have my handmade cards hand canceled at the post office so they aren’t ruined during sorting.
- If you’re new to making cards, I wrote Learning to Make Handmade Cards to help you get started. It explains all of the tools and supplies you need and gives you ideas for making your first cards.
