It’s no secret that I love glitter. When I was planning out my patriotic and Independence Day crafts, I knew I had to carve out time to make this Glittered Patriotic USA Decor project. I have to be careful not to have every single decoration covered in glitter, though! All the boys in my house would revolt. That’s fine, my Patriotic Plate Ribbon Banner and American Flag Wreath are glitter free.
I found the wood USA piece at Hobby Lobby on sale (of course), but other craft stores and even Target had them starting in May. If you have trouble finding one, you could easily get large U S A wood letters and hot glue them together for the same effect. I bet they’d look nice apart as well. I linked to my favorite ones from Target because they can easily stand up on their own. This project could also be turned into a wall hanging by adding command strips (my favorite) or a small hook.

Glittered Patriotic USA Decor
Materials
- Wood USA Piece or Wood U S A Letters
- Red, White, and Blue Acrylic Paint
- Red, White, and Blue Fine Glitter
- Mod Podge Glossy
- Paint Brush
- Foam Brush
Instructions
Step 1: Paint the U red, the S white, and the A blue on all sides. I let each color dry in between coats. I painted three coats of white and two coats of the red and blue. Let the paint dry completely before moving on.
TIP: Put down some paper to collect the fallen glitter.
Step 2: Apply Mod Podge to just the front of the U.
Step 3: Sprinkle red glitter all over the Mod Podge and shake off excess onto the paper. Fill in any empty spots. Let it dry completely before continuing.
Step 4: Apply Mod Podge to just the front of the A.
Step 5: Sprinkle blue glitter all over the Mod Podge and shake off excess onto the paper. Fill in any empty spots. Let it dry completely before continuing.
Step 6: Apply Mod Podge to just the front of the S.
Step 7: Sprinkle white glitter all over the Mod Podge and shake off excess onto the paper. When you tip it, try to do it in a way that the white glitter does not go over to the blue or red sides. Fill in any empty spots. Let it dry completely before continuing.
Step 8: Apply a coat of Mod Podge to the entire glittered area as well as the sides and back to seal it, excluding the bottom edge. Let it dry completely.
That’s it! As with my other glittered projects, most of the time is spent waiting for stuff to dry. I think this Glittered Patriotic USA Decor will add some much-needed sparkle to my house and can be used for other patriotic holidays besides the 4th of July. This would look nice on a mantle or sideboard as stand-alone decor or as part of a patriotic vignette.
