Constellation Crochet Blanket Pattern
Learn how to make this fun Galaxy Crochet Blanket with a Personalized Constellation by combining two different colors of Bernat Blanket Yarn.
Materials
- 3-10.5 oz Skeins Bernat Blanket Yarn in Pow Purple
- 3-10.5 oz Skeins Bernat Blanket Yarn in Lapis
- 1-5.3 oz Skein Bernat Blanket Yarn in Pale Gray
Tools
- Size Q/ 15.00 mm Crochet Hook
- Variety of Safety Pins
- Scissors
Instructions
Combine one strand each from blue and purple yarn. CH 60.
1st Row: SC BLO in 2nd ST. Repeat SC into BLO to end.
*2nd Row: CH 1. Turn and SC BLO in 2nd ST. Continue SC BLO to end.
(Note that since you combined two strands, your back post will actually be two, one blue and one purple.)
3rd Row: CH 1. Turn and SC FLO in 2nd ST. SC FLO to end.**
Repeat from * to ** for a total of 68 rows. Tie off and weave in the ends.
The SC BLO ST should always be done on the same side and the SC FLO ST on the same side. The BLO side is the "front" and should look somewhat like a cable knit pattern as shown. The "back" side will just look like smooth single crochet stitches.
Border
Top facing up, tie the two-strand combo onto a corner SC ST , using both loops this time.
HDC in each ST to corner. Use 3 HDC in the last ST of the row, then continue around to the side.
On the sides, 1 HDC in each row.
Continue around the entire blanket once and tie off and weave in the ends.
Constellation
Sketch out which constellation you use - I used Scorpius. Some stars or points will be larger and some smaller. Use the different sizes of safety pins to mark the different sizes of stars in the constellation by pinning them to the blanket front. Then use pieces of the grey yarn to make "asterisk" type stars, weaving the grey yarn in and out of the topmost stitches. You don't want the grey yarn to show through on the back. Finally, join the stars together by weaving the grey yarn through the topmost stitches. Tie off both ends.
