I don’t know what it is with me and carrots this year. I just think all of the carrot crafts are particularly cute. I was inspired to make this Button Carrot Easter Ornament back in December when I kept seeing all of those green button Christmas trees. Did you see any of those? Well, they got me to start brainstorming what other fun ornaments I could make using buttons. Carrots just popped into my head. They are the same shape as the tree ones, just in reverse.
For most of these buttons, I bought a container of yellow and orange buttons at Joann’s, but I also got a bunch from my bag-o-buttons. Do you have a button stash? The funny thing is, I have no idea where I got this Ziploc of buttons from! Oh well, at least I’m finally getting some use out of them.

Button Carrot Easter Ornament
Materials
steps
one: Cut 24 inches of orange embroidery thread.
two: Insert both ends of the thread through two holes in the smallest button.
three: Tie a simple knot.
four: Keep repeating Steps 2 and 3, except you will keep using bigger and bigger buttons. I tried to use two of each size.
five: For the last button, try to use one slightly smaller than the biggest one.
six: Tie a double knot, but leave a little room. Leave the excess orange thread.
TIP: It will be easier if you tie it around a pencil. It makes the perfect-sized opening and makes it easier to to tie.
seven: Take the green thread and wind it around your three fingers 12 times. Take the bundle off of your fingers so it makes a loop.
eight: Cut the end of the green thread loop that has the two loose ends.
nine: Slide the green thread bundle under the orange knotted thread to its center and pull both ends up and together.
ten: Cut an 8-inch piece of green thread. Tie it around the green thread bundle in a double knot and then tie the two ends together into a knot, making a loop for hanging the carrot. The green bundled thread will look like a tassel.
eleven: Take the two orange thread ends and tie them in double and triple knots, around the orange thread at the base, just below the green thread. This will help close up the “hole” you made to insert all of that green thread. Trim off excess orange thread.
twelve: Separate the green threads as best you can. A needle may help if you don’t have long fingernails. Also, twisting the strands the opposite direction helps.
That’s it! This Button Carrot Easter Ornament is a relatively easy craft, especially if you have patience for threading buttons. You could also use these ornaments on your Christmas tree. We have a strawberry and a pickle ornament, so I don’t think a random carrot ornament would look too out of place. How about you? Do you like carrots enough to make an ornament?
