I chose the bar stitch for the last block for several reasons. First, combined with the white yarn, it definitely gives a “facility” vibe and mirrors the vertical white bars on her bedframe used in the video.
Next, there are many references to being in jail or committing crimes throughout the album’s lyrics, with that one song specifically using getting out of jail to describe the end of a relationship.

And finally, I had to include a reference to one of my fav songs from the album about a bar called The Black Dog. I feel like there were more references to bars in other songs but I didn’t pour through every single lyric.
The yarn color choices were very easy to choose! Obviously, white is the signature color with shades of gray and black as accent colors. I wouldn’t normally choose a white yarn for a blanket, but for this block, I felt like it was a must.
Now go grab your hook & yarn and let’s get to it! Don’t forget to share your finished blocks in our Eras Crochet Along Facebook group! I absolutely enjoy seeing all of your different versions and yarn choices!

Instructions
Special Stitch
Bar Stitch: A bar stitch is simply a front post double crochet that is repeated in the same stitch line all the way up the piece. To make a front post double crochet, yarn over, insert your hook behind the stitch directly two rows below. Yarn over, pull the hook to the front. Yarn over, pull through 2 loops on hook, yarn over again, pull through last 2 loops. Keep a looser tension when making this stitch so it doesn’t pull the row down and make the block curl.
Chain 109.
Row 1: Single crochet into the 2nd chain from the hook. Single crochet into each chain across. (108 single crochets) Chain 1, turn.
Row 2: Single crochet into the 1st stitch and each stitch across the row. (108 single crochets) Chain 3, turn.

Row 3: Single crochet in the 1st stitch. Front post double crochet around the 2nd single crochet from row 1. *Back in Row 3, skip 1 stitch and single crochet in the next 2 stitches. In Row 1, skip 2 single crochets and front post double crochet around the next single crochet.**
Repeat * to ** across 34 more times.
Back in Row 3, skip 1 stitch and single crochet in the last stitch. (36 front post single crochets/ 108 stitches total) Chain 1, turn.
Note: Watch your tension on the front post double crochets. If you stitch them too tight, the rows will start to curl. Lay your block flat every once and a while to make sure it is actually lying flat.
Row 4: Single crochet in the 1st stitch and in each stitch across. (108 single crochets) Chain 1, turn.

Row 5: Single crochet in the 1st stitch. Front post double crochet around the next bar stitch from Row 3. *Back in Row 5, skip 1 stitch and single crochet in the next 2 stitches. Front post double crochet around the next bar stitch in Row 3.**

What do you think about the bar stitch? I think that it’s a fun stitch to incorporate with other stitch patterns, but I think an entire blanket of just bars might not be very interesting. Although, in the right colors, it could be perfect for a modern-style throw blanket.
I hope you’ve enjoyed making all the different blocks with me for this Eras Crochet Along. It’s been quite the journey! I would absolutely love to see your finished blankets once you’re done joining all the blocks. Now on to those joins!
